ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor or Command staff to develop and coordinate the Neighborhood Watch Programs. Plans, develops, and promotes program activities by conferring with various community groups, businesses, and residents of the City of Memphis. Conducts and coordinates Neighborhood Watch meetings, training sessions, and forums. Prepares and maintains reports on neighborhood outreach activities, progress, and results. Maintains an updated databases of program participants. Prepares informational documents and reports. Assists in the development of public information and disseminate information using various methods such as mail outs, email, or social media outlets. Works with police staff members to research and gather data and analysis on crime statistics and monitors trends to identify program needs. Collaborates and advises management, other department staff members, and community organizations regarding issues, concerns, and potential solutions to neighborhood concerns and issues. Plans, organizes, and coordinates public information and special awareness projects and events to promote the program. Schedules special event groups to take tours at various precincts or police facilities. Prepares and facilitates presentations to various groups to disseminate information to help generate support for the program. Answers questions regarding problem to citizens and staff members. Analyzes program effectiveness and assists in developing long-range plans, tracking program achievements, and maintaining program goals and objectives. Coordinates networking activities with other neighborhood jurisdictions. Attends training seminars or workshops on current trends in crime prevention, neighborhood programs, and other related topics as required. Travels to various community events or facilities to conduct activities or attend meetings throughout the city.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone. Requires the ability to operate automobile to drive to various meetings or facilitates. Requires some lifting, bending, crouching, and carrying objects such as office supplies.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in a office environment. May be exposed to various temperatures, odors, fumes, noise or unpleasant surroundings while at meeting and neighborhood activities. Frequently travels throughout the City to various locations. Must be able to work various shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or equivalent and seven (7) years’ experience in coordinating and developing neighborhood and community enhancement programs or events; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as condition of continued employment. All candidates must successfully pass a criminal justice employment background check to work within the Police Services Division.
